COC (Cyclic Olefin Copolymer) is a transparent thermoplastic material typically produced by copolymerizing cyclic olefin monomers, such as norbornene, with ethylene.
COP (Cyclic Olefin Polymer) is a thermoplastic material commonly manufactured through ring-opening polymerization of cyclic olefin monomers, followed by hydrogenation.
Both COC and COP are used in prefillable syringe packaging systems. Their properties vary by material grade, and suitability for a specific drug formulation depends on the complete container system, formulation characteristics, and intended storage and use conditions. Drug compatibility and potential extractables and leachables should be evaluated for each intended application.
For a comparison of glass, COC, and COP options, see our guide to prefillable syringe materials.
